Work Experience
A first experience of the professional world before choosing a future path.
Our Work Experience Programme gives Year 11 students the opportunity to experience a real working environment and become familiar with working hours, responsibilities, workplace expectations and professional discipline.
A real-world learning experience
The programme enables students to carry out tasks associated with a professional role within a real working environment.
It gives them the opportunity to understand more about how a business, profession or sector works and to experience the realities of working life first-hand.
For some students, it may also be the first opportunity to discover a particular profession that sparks a genuine interest.

Work Experience connects school learning with the skills students will need in their future academic and professional lives.
Career awareness
Encourage students to explore possible future careers and discover new areas of interest.
The world of work
Give students the opportunity to experience a real workplace and understand how it operates from the inside.
Business and industry
Broaden their understanding of business, industry and commerce.
Professional skills
Help students identify the skills and abilities required for different roles and professions.
Personal development
Help them recognise and develop their own strengths with future career opportunities in mind.
Social skills
Give students the opportunity to apply the social and personal skills developed at school in a real context.
An experience also valued by universities
Participation in this type of programme is viewed positively by British universities and can add value to a student's university application in the United Kingdom.
From school to the workplace
IGCSE examinations
The programme takes place in June, once students have completed their IGCSE examinations.
Work placement
Students complete their experience in a participating company or professional environment.
Real experience
They take part in tasks, routines and activities associated with that professional environment.
Final assessment
The participating organisation completes an assessment prepared by the school.
Assessment of the experience
At the end of the placement, the participating organisation completes a student assessment prepared by CBS.
Certificate
Students receive a certificate issued in the name of both the school and the participating organisation in recognition of their involvement in the programme.
